No New Album For Janet Anytime Soon

Despite enjoying the limelight from both projects, Janet Jackson has revealed to Rolling Stone that she has not taken things a step further by recording a new studio album or even signing to a new label. Read what the diva had to say below:

“There was a time where I was actually in the studio and I was recording, but I’m not working on an album,” she says. “There have been a lot of record labels that have asked me to sit down and talk with them, but I don’t know if I want to do something completely independent, or go with a major.” Discipline was Jackson’s first disc on Def Jam after she left her longtime label Virgin.

So what about the new songs? “Nothing” is a one-off she co-wrote and co-produced with Jermaine Dupri for the new Tyler Perry film Why Did I Get Married Too?, and the lyrics reflect the tensions and turmoil between characters, like Angela’s trust issues with Marcus (”You can even have the password to my phone”), as well as her own character Patricia’s guilt and regret over Gavin (”We should cherish every moment like it’s the last”). As for the second song, Jackson said she did it as a favor for Rodney Jerkins, for “fun.”

When Jackson does return to the studio, she’s not sure whether she’ll work toward a classic pop album (as “Nothing” might indicate) or do something more dance club-oriented (like “Heartbeat Love”): “I haven’t decided on exactly where I want to go or what I want to do.”

Kelly Readys New Single

It has been confirmed that Grammy award winner is set to premiere the first international single from her hotly anticipated new album this weekend at the Winter Music Conference in Miami. The track, which was penned by Rico Love and produced by David Guetta, has been confirmed to be titled "Commander". She is set to unveil the track in performance form at the event, and is currently in rehearsals in Los Angeles.

Lady GaGa Readys ‘Alejandro’

Lady GaGa is gearing up to shoot the clip for its follow-up "Alejandro". Speaking recently to Australian radio station Nova 96.9 FM, the 23 year old Pop phenomenon coyly shared a few tidbits on the video, which is said will be directed by Steven Klein:

“I’m so excited about the ‘Alejandro’ video,” she told the station. “Actually, we’re shooting it very soon and I don’t want to say who the director is yet because it’s going to give a lot away.”

When asked if she could reveal anything more, it was evident that she intends on keeping the music video’s concept secret.

“Are you absolutely mad? I would never, ever tell you!” she laughed. “I would be more likely to lie through my teeth to you what the video’s about so that you could all be surprised. But I will tell you it’s not the sequel to the ‘Telephone’ video.”

Pop superstar Lady Gaga has responded to a lawsuit a former producer of hers (named Rob Fusari) filed against her last week. Gaga, who goes by Stefani Germanotta when the courts are involved, claims that he broke the law by tricking her into signing an illegal contract. Her lawsuit states that the contract between her and Fusari isn’t legit because Fusari wasn’t a licensed talent agent. Lady Gaga and her lawyers want Fusari’s suit thrown out and they want him to pay damages for trying to take advantage of an “inexperienced performing artist.”

Fusari made Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, “enter into an unlawful arrangement” when he made her sign a contract giving him rights to her future earnings, the suit says, calling his actions “predatory and financially abusive.” “The … arrangement was structured in such a way as to mask its true purpose – to provide the defendant unlawful compensation for their services as unlicensed employment agents,” the suit says.

Germanotta and Fusari met in March 2006 when he was looking for a female rocker with “garage band chops,” according to his lawsuit. The producer, who worked with Destiny’s Child on “Bootylicious,” says he persuaded Germanotta to add dance beats to her music and call herself Lady Gaga. Fusari’s lawyer, Robert Meloni, called the claim “ludicrous” when he read the suit. “Rob was no more of an ‘agent’ for her than she is a Roman Catholic nun,” Meloni said.

Oh great, 50 cent has an opinion and is speaking out publicly. Just what we need. According to “MTV UK” he had the following to say...

“I would marry Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Rihanna in Africa, I’d have 3 wives! And I would avoid wearing condoms and have really big families!” the rapper said.
And on the subject of GaGa and Beyoncé he got very vocal about what he saw as a double standard about sexual imagery in videos saying, “I think it’s hot [the Telephone video]. But there’s a shot in the video in the diner that’s just breasts. And it looks great, but if I shot the same shot in my music video, they would make me edit that immediately.”
He added “Even if I had someone who was recognizable female talent that was part of the project, they wouldn’t allow that to go. They would think it was you taking advantage of a girl for marketing purposes or whatever.”

When asked why he thought that was he replied, “It’s their personal perception of your intentions of how you utilize it. Like ‘it’s Britney bitch’ nobody has a problem with that. But if I say ‘it’s Fifty bitch’ everyone’s like oh my god! You got to edit that.”

Rev Runs son Diggy Simmons has inked a deal with Atlantic Records today, a day after his 15th Birthday. That’s Big.

He released a mixtape titled “First Flight” a few months ago, followed by a remix to Drake’s “Over” and eventually dropped “Flo Stoopid” which gave him the buzz he needed to generate interests from the labels.
Haterz took to Twitter to diss the hell out of Diggy’s older brother JoJo Simmons who has been rapping for a while, but has been nowhere near close to locking down a deal with any major labels like his little bro And when JoJo and Diggy’s older sister Angela Simmons cauthw ind of this, she decided to throw in her two cents.

Like I said before on this little blog, Mariah Carey was rumored to have shelving her new ‘Angel’s Advocate’ album, and now her manager Chris Lighty has come forward to confirm the news, he says that the situation at her label is in "disarray" and that a new album or Christmas album is in the works.Lighty confirmed the news to Mariah’s top fansite, and  Twitter.
 he said:

“We are looking to go possibly to another studio album or Christmas album. The decision hasn’t been totally made yet. It’s a creative process that cannot be rushed.” In regard to the fate of ‘Angel’s Advocate’, he added “It won’t go to waste”, insisting that they are looking at a means of releasing the tracks.

Erykah Badu News

R&B/neo-soul singer Erykah Badu released the cover for her new album New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh via her official website earlier this week. The singer plans to release the album in a couple weeks (Tues. Mar 30). She also leaked a song from the album called “Strawberry Incense,” which was produced by Madlib and features Kirsten Agresta on the harp.

The cover art for NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO is a collaboration between ERYKAH BADU and famed artist and poster designer EMEK, who also designed the inspired packaging for 2008’s New Amerykah Part One: 4th World War. The new album cover depicts an underwater image of BADU wearing a suit of armor that symbolizes the tough exterior she developed to protect herself from the harsh realities of life. The armor is her old shell and now she’s liberating herself from it by climbing out of her own head so that she can be reborn.

Her tuning fork is summoning the vibrations of the universe and the purple-colored tree of life and purple sky represent the 7th Chakra—the Crown Chakra right above her third eye shield, which represents peace, wisdom, and spirituality. The numerical theme of three is symbolized by three moons, three hidden babies, three trees, and three ankhs. Closer inspection reveals that BADU’s shoulders are surrounded by many of the same objects that filled her abstract afro on the cover of New Amerykah Part One, including handcuffs, a foreclosed home, fast food, cigarettes, broken chains, and a military tank. Here, those items represent refuse and rubble from which new life grows into a vibrant garden of colorful flowers blossoming all around her.

“Working with ERYKAH always brings out the best in me,” says EMEK. “I have worked with hundreds of bands and I have to say that she is pretty unique. The amount of time and energy she spends on all aspects of her life. She is very creative and hands-on, but she also respects and encourages the creativity in others.”

In keeping with the concept of the cover art, NEW AMERYKAH PART TWO: RETURN OF THE ANKH taps into BADU’s emotional side by thematically focusing on romance and relationships. “With Part One, I was standing at an apex, looking at what was going on around me politically, socially, and economically,” BADU explains. “With PART TWO, I’m hovering over me, looking at what’s going on inside of me.”

Gaga Defending Her Art

Lady Gaga is defending her highly controversial new video “Telephone.” The almost 10 minute short film has caused a stir both on and offline, and within 3 days of its premiere on Vevo.com, it has received over 20 million views! And even though most, if not all, of the media is making a mountain out of a mole hill over what they call “suggestive tones” in the clip, Lady Gaga is pleased about the outcome and believes it will have a lasting impact on her little monsters for years to come.

She says, “There are transsexual women and transgender women and suddenly it becomes poisonous and something else because there are some people in this world that believe being gay is a choice. It’s not a choice, we’re born this way. That’s why for me this video is groundbreaking because it has one foot in the art community and one foot in the commercial world.

“I told Beyonce this after it aired, you’ll see this video is not just great now but six months from now what this video will mean. Hearing people say the video is sadomasochistic or that the video promotes murder for young people, it’s my personal belief that the video is getting so much attention not because of those themes because I’ve done those themes before, haven’t I?

“There are no rules or limits when it comes to love. But I see love as separate from sex.”


SideBar: Lady GaGa and Beyonce will have much cause for celebration tonight, as their smash ‘Telephone’ has hit the top spot on the Official UK Singles Chart.

No doubt spurred on the the song’s epic video, the feat brings GaGa’s tally of #1’s on the chart to 4 (‘Just Dance’, ‘Poker Face’, ‘Bad Romance’ and ‘Telephone’) and Beyonce’s to 5 (‘Crazy In Love’, ‘Deja Vu’, ‘Beautiful Liar’, ‘If I Were A Boy’, and ‘Telephone’).
